Former governors of Macau organized “Encounter of Macau” in Portugal

For the commemoration of administrations’ transfer of Macau, seven members of Jorge Alvares Foundation, who are the former governors of the “Chinese territory under the Portuguese administration” before 1999, organized an “Encounter of Macau” lunch last Saturday (27 June 2009) in Mafra National Palace, Portugal.

The chairman of the Jorge Alvares Foundation, Lopes dos Santos (governor of Macau, 1962-1966), the members of the Board of Trustees (BT), Garcia Leandro (1974-1979) and Melo Egídio (1979-1981), the member of the Board of Directors (BD), Almeida e Costa (1981-1985), the member of the BT, Joaquim Pinto Machado (1986-1987), the member of the BD Carlos Melancia (1987-1991) and the member of the BT, Vasco Rocha Vieira (1991-1999) have gathered about 2,000 individuals that “were born, lived or worked in Macau during the period of the Portuguese administration”, at the Practical School of Infantry in the Mafra National Palace.

Before the “informal” commemorative lunch, Portuguese folk dance was performed with Macanese “patois” songs on a garden, beside the military school. The garden is a property of the Jorge Alvares Foundation. Moreover, the “She-Si” Chinese Martial Arts School (葡國師謙泰武術學校), a famous Chinese dragon dance team in Portugal was also invited to participate in the event.
